The Lefke Walnut Festival kicks off at BRTK
The Lefke Walnut Festival kicked off with a colorful cortege, marking the beginning of a celebration that aims to promote Turkish Cypriot culture, support walnut producers, and bring economic benefits to the region. The annual event, organized by the Lefke Municipality and Lefke Tourism Association, saw walnut producers cut the opening ribbon, symbolizing the start of the festivities.
In his opening speech, Hasan Karlıtaş, President of the Lefke Tourism Association, highlighted the importance of the festival as a collaboration between the local government and non-governmental organizations. He emphasized the significance of preserving traditional production methods and continuing such festivals that add value to the local economy.
Lefke Mayor Aziz Kaya expressed his commitment to organizing the walnut festival every year, despite the challenges faced. This year, the festival omitted concerts in honor of the late Lefke enthusiast Nazım Beratlı. Mayor Kaya emphasized the importance of Lefke’s membership in the Cittaslow network and the need to uphold traditional practices.
The festival also featured a captivating performance by the Lefke Municipality Little Folk Dance Team, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the region. As the festival continues to evolve and grow, it remains a testament to the community’s dedication to preserving its heritage and supporting local industries.
