New Statistics Reveal the Most Dangerous Motorways in Hungary in 2022

According to the latest road statistics, Hungary has seen a decrease of 8.4% in traffic accidents during the first half of 2023 compared to the same period in 2022. However, the number of injured individuals has reached 6,424 between January and June.

Among the cities, Budapest had the highest number of accidents per 10,000 citizens, with 9 incidents. On a national level, the rate of accidents per 10,000 citizens stood at 6.7 during the first half of the year. Fatal accidents accounted for 3% of the total, while 29% resulted in serious injuries, and 68% resulted in light injuries. Tolna County had the highest rate of fatal accidents at 6.5%. Most accidents were caused by private cars, while bikes and motorbikes accounted for 9.9% and 3.7% of the accidents respectively.

In 2022, Pénzcentrum reported a total of 582 accidents on Hungary’s motorways. The following motorways were identified as the most dangerous in the country:

– M1 between Budapest and Vienna, with 146 accidents.
– M3 connecting Budapest with Miskolc and Ukraine (Transcarpathia), with 131 accidents.
– M5 leading from Budapest to Szeged and Serbia, with 120 accidents.
– M7 connecting Budapest with Lake Balaton and Croatia, with 67 accidents.
– M0 which surrounds Budapest, with 85 accidents.
– M6 connecting Budapest and Mohács, with 28 accidents.
