The Power of Family in Helping Those in Need

Hungarian Government’s Family-Friendly Policies Improve Financial Situation
In a recent online conference on Social Innovation for Poverty Eradication, Ágnes Hornung, Secretary of State for Families at the Ministry of Culture and Innovation, discussed the Hungarian government’s efforts to help families and communities through its social policies. She emphasized that the government believes in the family unit as the most effective way to help those in need, and as a result of their family-friendly policies, the overall financial situation of families has improved since 2010.
Hornung highlighted key initiatives such as the family tax advantage scheme and the CSOK-plus home formation support, which were aimed at providing financial assistance to families. In addition, the government also provides free textbooks for primary and secondary school pupils, free meals for kindergarten and nursery-age children, and state-subsidized holiday and recreation opportunities for families in social need.
The government’s efforts have yielded positive results, with the number of families with children at risk of poverty decreasing significantly and many providers who were previously unemployed now finding jobs. Hornung also thanked Judit Regős, President of the House of Parents Foundation, for the organization’s support in helping more than 100,000 households and running six family support centers.
The focus on family-friendly policies and support for communities has been a driving force behind Hungary’s efforts to alleviate poverty and improve the financial situation of families across the country. These measures have shown positive results and underscore the government’s commitment to uplifting all age groups through its social policies.
