The SAT Commandos: United as We Breathe
The Underwater Attack Command (SAT), Turkey’s first and only naval commando unit, is carrying out successful missions using the latest technologies. SAT commandos are highly trained and possess a strong sense of duty, working together to overcome all sorts of difficulties.
The commandos carry out reconnaissance, surveillance and intelligence-gathering missions by infiltrating enemy territory from the air, land, sea, and underwater, attacking land or surface targets. To prepare for their duties, SAT teams undergo 11 months of hard education, including physical conditioning training such as diving, parachute, air operations, naval operations, land operations, and indoor operations.
If officers and non-commissioned officers who meet their physical condition qualifications successfully complete the course, they are entitled to become SAT Commandos.
The training of SAT commandos is breathtaking, consisting of Sniper and Sniper Shooting Training, Ship Capture and Confiscation Training, Underwater closed circuit transfer and shooting for targets on the beach, Small unit tactics Training and Close Combat Training using real bullets for war preparation and maintenance training.
During training, SAT commandos conducted raids on a hijacked ship where they threw a sound bomb on the ship’s deck before entering in a controlled manner. They also descended from a helicopter and carried out combat training in forests. SAT commandos are equipped with unique skills to perform Special Operations using deployment from the sea, land, and air.
According to the SAT Team Commander, “SAT specialized personnel are the only personnel in our country who have graduated from the Underwater Assault Special Specialization course and are trained to perform Special Operations using the methods of deployment from the sea, land, and air. They perform their duties in the field of land and naval operations by making reconnaissance and gathering intelligence about the defense, detection, identification and attack possibilities of the enemy.”
The SAT Commandos’ duties include disrupting enemy activities and carrying out joint attack missions with independent Naval Special Operations and other elements, units and forces using unconventional warfare techniques, techniques, and tactics against targets.
SAT Commandos are always ready for duty thanks to their extensive training day and night, making them an integral part of Turkey’s Naval Forces Command.
