The Shocking Incident of Bargaining in the Operating Room: A Surprising Investigation
51-year-old CT living in Istanbul, who complained of chest pain, found himself in a shocking situation when he was referred to a private hospital in Bakırköy for urgent angiography. According to reports, the patient was negotiating prices with the hospital staff while in the operating room.
The images, which were revealed in the Arena program, showed the hospital accountant discussing prices for the procedure with the patient while he was being prepared for angio. The patient allegedly requested the most affordable stent, but was asked for 50 thousand pounds for the third stent.
Following an examination by the Provincial Health Directorate, the activity of the hospital’s angiography unit was stopped. The hospital was fined administratively and the incident was reported to the SSI. The Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation into the matter.
The Ministry of Health also responded to the situation, stating that they were deeply upset by the images of price negotiations during the angio process. They assured the public that the Istanbul Provincial Health Directorate had initiated an extraordinary inspection process at the hospital and that no citizen should have to deal with such demands during medical treatment.
