The “Transplantation and Cellular Therapies Congress” convened in Kyrenia – BRTK

The third “Transplantation and Cellular Therapies Congress” recently took place in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, organized by the Transplantation and Cellular Therapies Association. The event brought together 400 academicians and researchers from 10 different countries to discuss the latest advancements in stem cell transplantation and cellular treatments for diseases such as Leukemia, Lymphoma, and Multiple Myeloma.

During a press conference held at the Merit Diamond Hotel as part of the congress, Professor Doctor Fevzi Altunbaş, Founding President of the Transplantation and Cellular Therapies Association and President of the World Apheresis Association, emphasized the importance of early diagnosis and stem cell transplantation in treating these diseases. Altunbaş also highlighted the need for an increase in stem cell donations to further advance these treatments.

Altunbaş mentioned that anyone between the ages of 18-50 can become a stem cell donor and called on healthy individuals in Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus to consider becoming donors. The congress aimed to raise awareness about the benefits of stem cell donation and its impact on patients in need of such treatments.

Congress President Professor Doctor Mehmet Ali Erkut discussed Turkey’s leading position in stem cell transplantation compared to many developed countries, attributing this success to the growing number of stem cell donors. The event also featured discussions on new treatment methods for blood cancers, with particular focus on the groundbreaking Cart-T Cell therapy.
