Çınarlı Martyrs Commemorated with Ceremony in Northern Cyprus
The Çınarlı Martyrs were honored with a ceremony held at the Çınarlı Martyrs’ Monument in Northern Cyprus. The event was attended by President Ersin Tatar, President of the Republic Assembly Zorlu Töre, as well as military and civilian dignitaries.
The ceremony began with the laying of wreaths at the monument in accordance with protocol, followed by a moment of silence, a salute of respect, and the raising of flags accompanied by the National Anthem.
During the ceremony, a poem titled “Çınarlı Martyrs” was recited by Hıfsiye Poyraz, and Emete Bektaş, President of the Çınarlı Lovers Association, delivered a short speech. Bektaş expressed gratitude to those who contributed to establishing the Martyrs’ Monument in the village, which commemorates the eight martyrs from Çınarlı.
In his speech, President Tatar emphasized the importance of remembering and honoring the sacrifices made by the martyrs. He stated, “We owe these days to them and we will never forget their bravery.” Tatar also voiced concerns about the ongoing challenges faced by the Turkish Cypriot people, including international pressure to accept an “imposed solution” that would jeopardize Turkey’s role as guarantor and the presence of Turkish soldiers on the island.
President Tatar stressed the need for Turkey’s continued support to maintain the sovereignty and security of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). He highlighted the significance of the upcoming 50th anniversary of the Turkish Cypriot Peace Operation, emphasizing the TRNC’s status as a recognized entity by many countries around the world.
The ceremony concluded with a prayer offered for the souls of the Martyrs, underscoring the enduring legacy of their sacrifice and the ongoing struggle for recognition and sovereignty in Northern Cyprus.
