Third Bosphorus Tunnel to be Built: President Erdoğan Makes Announcement
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan attended the Istanbul Meeting at Atatürk Airport Nation’s Garden and gave a speech where he announced the good news of the 3rd tunnel project that will pass under the Bosphorus. The rally was also attended by other political figures, including Chairman of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Devlet Bahçeli and Chairman of the Grand Unity Party (BBP) Mustafa Destici. Thousands of people carrying Turkish flags and the AK Party flag entered the area early in the morning.
President Erdoğan also mentioned the establishment of the Istanbul Finance Center on the Anatolian Side, and 48 national garden projects in Istanbul. He highlighted the improvements in transportation, including the completion of the Istanbul Izmir Highway, the northern Marmara Highway, the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, Osmangazi Bridge, and the Eurasia Tunnel. Additionally, he mentioned the Great Istanbul Tunnel project, which will be the 3rd tunnel that passes under the Bosphorus.
President Erdoğan also spoke about the investments made in Istanbul, including the establishment of 37 universities, 184 sports facilities, and 178 health facilities, including hospitals with a bed capacity of 18,000. He also mentioned the urban transformation of 438,000 independent structures that were previously deemed risky.
He also highlighted the Half of Us campaign, which aims to cover half the cost of houses that need to undergo urban transformation, as well as the goal to completely renovate 1.5 million risky buildings in Istanbul within 5 years.
President Erdoğan ended his speech by saying, “We will make Istanbul ready for an earthquake as soon as possible.”
