Thousands of Palestinians Flee Gaza Strip After Israeli Evacuation Order
UNITED NATIONS REPORTS THOUSANDS FLEEING AS ISRAEL CONTINUES BOMBING IN GAZA
Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesperson of the UN Secretary-General, provided an update on the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza during a daily press briefing with journalists. The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported that thousands of people are fleeing west towards al-Mawasi as the Israeli army issues new evacuation orders.
Haq stated that over 15,500 people have been affected in the region, spanning more than 30 neighborhoods. He called on all parties to abide by international humanitarian law and emphasized the importance of protecting civilians and civilian infrastructure.
Unfortunately, necessary food deliveries to Palestinians have been disrupted due to the bombing of roads and crossing points by the Israeli army. The UN World Food Programme (WFP) convoys have been unable to reach the intended recipients, leaving around 600,000 people in Gaza at risk of food shortages.
“The ongoing hostilities have damaged roads and hindered food transportation operations in Gaza,” Haq explained. Despite reaching approximately 1 million people in July, the number of food distribution points has decreased due to evacuation orders and infrastructure damage.
As the conflict continues to escalate in Gaza, the UN and humanitarian agencies are facing significant challenges in providing essential aid to those in need. The international community is urged to prioritize the protection and well-being of civilians in the region.
