Three Suspected PKK Affiliated Parties Banned in Iraq
Iraq Bans PKK-Linked Political Parties and Designates PKK as “Banned Organization”
The Iraqi Supreme Judicial Council has made a significant decision regarding the activities of political parties with ties to the terrorist organization PKK. The decision was leaked to the local press, revealing that the activities of the so-called parties named “Yazidis Democrat and Freedom Party”, “Democratic Struggle Front Party” and “Tevgera Azadi” have been banned due to their links to the PKK, and their assets will be confiscated.
The decision was made upon the request and complaint of the Iraqi Undersecretariat for National Security, with confirmation from the Iraqi Intelligence Service and the Prime Ministry Office about the parties’ ties to the terrorist organization PKK.
Furthermore, Iraq has taken a further step against the PKK by officially designating them as a “banned organization” in official correspondence. This decision comes after Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani’s new instructions regarding the PKK, requesting that the terrorist organization be defined as a ‘Prohibited Organization’ in state institutions.
The Iraqi Turkmen Front has welcomed this decision, with President Hasan Turan emphasizing that it will greatly contribute to the fight against terrorism in the region. Iraqi media had previously reported that the government had sent an official letter to the parliament regarding the PKK, solidifying their new designation as a “banned organization” in Iraq.
