Tekirdağ Metropolitan Municipality Faces Backlash for Ending Accommodation Services for Earthquake Victims
Tekirdağ Metropolitan Municipality has caused outrage among earthquake victims after announcing that their accommodation services would come to an end. The decision was met with severe backlash, leading to an investigation into the matter. In response, Tekirdağ Metropolitan Municipality Secretary General Fatih Ünsal, Deputy Secretary General Alpaslan Kurtoğlu, and Head of Social Services Department İsa Karadağ were all dismissed from their positions.
According to reports, Tekirdağ Metropolitan Municipality was hosting 550 guests in hotels that were affected by the earthquake. Unfortunately, the earthquake victims learned that their accommodation would be terminated with a last-minute notification. However, after the decision was met with severe backlash, the stay period was extended. Additionally, AFAD and the governor’s office announced that all the expenses of the earthquake victims would be covered.
Tekirdağ Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Kadir Albayrak stated that inspectors were sent to Tekirdağ to investigate the matter further. Albayrak also clarified that the aforementioned individuals were not dismissed and that the results of the investigation would be acted upon.
The Ministry of Interior has also stepped in and launched an investigation into the matter. The decision by Tekirdağ Metropolitan Municipality has been criticized by the community and calls have been made for accountability and transparency in the matter.
