Tisza to Call Referendum on Ukraine’s EU Accession When Conditions and Planned Date are Known

Opposition Leader Accuses Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán of Lying About Ukraine’s EU Accession Prospects
In a recent video post on Facebook, Hungarian opposition Tisza Party leader Péter Magyar has accused Prime Minister Viktor Orbán of “lying” in connection with Ukraine’s EU accession prospects.
Magyar took to Facebook to express his concerns, stating that after previously lying about EU funding, Orbán is now misleading the public “about Ukraine’s accession”. Magyar went on to say that Orbán’s declining polling numbers have forced him to lie about even the most obvious things.
At a recent event hosted by Tisza, known as the Nemzet Hangja (Voice of the Nation) campaign, the party clearly stated its position on Ukraine’s EU accession. Magyar promised that Tisza would organize a legally binding referendum once all the conditions and the proposed date of accession are known. This decision was based on the party’s survey of over 1.137 million people, which did not produce a clear result either way.
Orbán’s cabinet has also revealed the potential costs of Ukraine’s EU integration, shedding light on the ongoing discussions surrounding Ukraine’s EU membership referendum in Hungary.
As the political tensions continue to rise, it is evident that the debate over Ukraine’s EU accession prospects will remain at the forefront of Hungarian politics.
