TMO refutes allegations of product adulteration

The Soil Products Office (TMO) has responded to misleading claims about its stockpiling methods in open piles in a recent statement. The Office clarified that the wheat and barley products purchased are not buried on top of the soil, but rather stored in accordance with legislation and proper storage techniques.

TMO explained that products are stored in closed and licensed warehouses, and in open piles when necessary. This traditional storage method involves laying polyethylene under and on the products, followed by soil to protect them. Expert personnel evaluate the selection of open pile locations, and routine stock checks are conducted every 15 days to ensure quality and quantity control.

In 2023, TMO made its highest purchase in history and utilized open bulk purchase areas due to insufficient closed storage facilities. The products were stored on the land of the Sheep Research Institute Directorate in Bandırma, and after completion of the liquidation process, no significant problems were observed in terms of quantity and quality.

The allegations of rotten, damp, and fungal products being buried in open piles were deemed deliberate and aimed at creating a false perception. TMO emphasized that baseless claims about their storage methods do not align with reality, and they will continue to store products in a healthy and safe manner to serve producers and consumers effectively.
