Tokat Village Split in Two: Population of 900 Divided
Following the devastating landslides that occurred on February 3-4 in Günebakan village of Niksar district, the village has been left in disarray, with the road dividing it into two parts. The landslides caused the road, which connects the west and east ends of the village, to shift 3 meters towards the south, along with several houses. As a result, 40 houses and the village mosque had to be evacuated, with 4 houses and the mosque being demolished.
The collapse of the road has completely cut off transportation to the western part of the village, home to approximately 80 households. Villagers are now forced to navigate footpaths and fields to access this section. To address the power outage in the western part of the village, a temporary generator was installed to provide electricity on the first day after the landslide.
In response to the disaster, Minister of Internal Affairs Ali Yerlikaya announced that 1 million 188 thousand TL Emergency Aid Allowance has been sent to Tokat Governorship by AFAD Presidency. Yerlikaya detailed the extent of the damage caused by the landslides, including the displacement of residences, barns, haystacks, warehouses, workplaces, and the mosque. The affected area was declared a Disaster Affecting General Life, leading to the evacuation of 40 houses as a precautionary measure.
Entitlement and site selection studies are currently underway to address the urgent needs of the disaster victims and provide assistance to those whose houses were affected. The Minister assured that the entitlement studies are completed, and the houses will be delivered to the citizens as soon as possible. In conclusion, Yerlikaya expressed his wish for the protection of the country and its people from all kinds of disasters.
