Tokayev applauds results of US-Russia discussions

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan has expressed his support for the recent phone call between United States President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding the situation in Ukraine. The Kazakh President’s press secretary, Ruslan Zheldibay, stated that Tokayev believes the leaders of the two countries have shown a commitment to achieving lasting peace through concrete agreements, which is crucial for Eurasian security.
Tokayev had previously called for all involved parties to engage in negotiations to develop a “peace formula” and expressed support for peace plans proposed by China and Brazil at the BRICS Summit. The White House noted that the phone call between Trump and Putin resulted in progress towards peace in Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, with both leaders agreeing to an immediate ceasefire for energy infrastructure in the region.
However, while there was movement towards peace, Putin did not fully endorse a broader 30-day pause in fighting that the U.S. administration is advocating for. Despite this, the developments in the phone call have generated optimism for potential progress towards resolving the conflict in Ukraine.
