Tokayev Grateful to Citizens and Countries for Support During Flood Crisis
President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev expressed deep gratitude to citizens and countries that provided assistance in addressing the spring floods that affected the country. In a ceremony held on June 19 in Astana, the President acknowledged the efforts of individuals and organizations that contributed to tackling the natural disaster.
This year’s spring floods in Kazakhstan were described as one of the most destructive in the country’s history, leading to a state of emergency being declared in 10 regions and causing damage to over 19,000 residential buildings. More than 63,000 law enforcement officers and 120,000 individuals, including children, were involved in rescue operations and evacuation efforts. The President praised the National Volunteer Network for their active engagement in providing aid to those affected by the floods, and he commended the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan for their initiative, Zhurekten Zhurekke (from heart to heart).
Foreign partners and friends were also recognized for their support during the crisis, with some individuals from abroad coming to Kazakhstan to offer personal assistance to those in need. President Tokayev emphasized the importance of unity and solidarity in overcoming challenges, highlighting the bravery and dedication of citizens who stepped up to help their fellow countrymen.
As a token of appreciation, the President awarded rescuers, volunteers, workers, public figures, military personnel, doctors, entrepreneurs, and leaders of large businesses who played a significant role in the flood prevention and relief efforts.
