Kazakhstan Celebrates 80th Anniversary of Victory in WWII with Grand Military Parade
ASTANA — President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev addressed the nation during a military parade on May 7, commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory in World War II. Emphasizing the unbreakable spirit of Kazakhstan’s soldiers, Tokayev honored the heroic deeds of those who defended the homeland and urged the nation to remember the sacrifices made in the struggle for freedom.
In his remarks, the President underscored the significance of the holiday, labeling it a powerful symbol of resilience and bravery. "We must continue to cherish the memory of those who fell in battle and uphold the legacy of our ancestors," he stated.
Tokayev expressed profound gratitude to the servicemen who ensure peace within the country. He reflected on the profound challenges presented by World War II, describing it as a harsh test for humanity, including the people of Kazakhstan. "These harrowing times serve as a stark reminder of the devastation wrought by war, emphasizing peace as an invaluable treasure," he noted.
Addressing the veterans directly, Tokayev extended heartfelt appreciation on behalf of the nation. "The valor exhibited by front-line soldiers shall forever remain etched in our memories. Their dedication to the Motherland serves as a continual source of inspiration for future generations," he declared. Over 1.2 million Kazakhs were mobilized during the war, with nearly half making the ultimate sacrifice for the safety and prosperity of future generations.
The President also highlighted the extraordinary contributions of Kazakh citizens, mentioning that more than 500 were honored with the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. He recalled renowned heroes such as Talgat Bigeldinov, Sergey Lugansky, and Manshuk Mametova, whose enduring legacies have enriched the nation’s history.
Moreover, Tokayev recognized the unwavering resolve of those who supported the war effort from the home front, noting that Kazakhstan dispatched approximately 1,500 train cars filled with food and supplies to the front lines.
The military parade showcased the nation’s strength and preparedness, featuring over 4,000 servicemen and a display of more than 200 units of military equipment, including tanks and missile systems, as well as 66 aircraft and helicopters, illustrating Kazakhstan’s commitment to national defense.
As the nation remembers its past, President Tokayev’s address serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made during the war and the enduring spirit of the Kazakh people.
