Too Late to Prevent Disaster: Trees and Retaining Wall Collapse

The residents of Zonguldak are facing ongoing challenges due to a landslide that occurred 3 months ago. The latest incident involved a section of the retaining wall sliding further downwards and 4 trees falling down. Municipal officials have highlighted the difficulty in finding the appropriate excavation and filling material needed to fill the area.
The landslide took place in Karaelmas District Albayrak Street a few months back. Since then, the area has been under examination by AFAD and municipal teams. It was determined that the municipality should take the lead in rebuilding the road. While houses in the area have not been evacuated, precautionary measures have been taken such as placing wooden barricades and police barriers to ensure the safety of residents and commuters.
Residents, such as Nazikar Çelik and Tülay Baştürk, expressed their concerns about the ongoing situation. Çelik shared his fear of potential hazards, while Baştürk highlighted the transportation difficulties that have arisen due to the road closure.
Municipal authorities have assured that they are prioritizing the work on Albayrak Street. However, the delay in finding the necessary materials for the construction work has hindered progress. They have emphasized that the houses in the area are not currently at risk but have acknowledged the need for swift action to address the ongoing issues. The residents continue to wait for a resolution to ensure their safety and convenience in the neighborhood.
