Töre and Şentop Conduct Inspection in Maraş
Turkish officials make observations in Maraş
Zorlu Töre, the President of the Assembly of the Republic, recently visited Maraş together with Mustafa Şentop, the former President of the Turkish Grand National Assembly. The officials received a briefing about the region and made statements to the press regarding their observations.
During the visit, Şentop recalled the work carried out in coordination with the TRNC Foundations Administration during his time at the university. He emphasized the historical significance of the foundation lands in Maraş and pointed out that the records in the foundation books indicate the long-standing presence of these lands.
Şentop also highlighted the gradual transfer of foundation properties to the Greeks, especially during the British Administration of the island. He noted that records show properties belonging to the Foundations in both the North and South of the island, with guarantees in international law.
President Töre, in his speech, emphasized the historical significance of the construction on foundation lands in Maraş and defended the rights of the Turkish Cypriot people. He stated that attempts to convert the lands into private property cannot change the historical facts.
The visit and the statements made by the officials shed light on the complex history of Maraş and the ongoing efforts to protect the rights and properties of the Turkish Cypriot people.
