Töre Falls Short of Absolute Majority in Second Round of Parliament
The second round of voting for UBP Deputy Zorlu Töre’s Presidency at the General Assembly of the Republic Assembly ended with 25 votes in favor and 24 votes against. With a total of 49 deputies participating in the voting, Töre was unable to secure the absolute majority needed to win, leading to a third round of elections.
Under the Parliament’s Internal Regulations, an absolute majority is required in the first four rounds of voting for the presidential election. If no candidate receives the necessary votes in the first four rounds, the fifth round allows for victory if the acceptance votes outnumber the rejection votes.
The Assembly of the Republic is made up of 24 seats for UBP, 19 seats for main opposition CTP, 3 seats for coalition partner DP, 2 seats for coalition partner YDP, and 2 seats for independents.
The upcoming third round of elections will determine whether Deputy Zorlu Töre will secure the presidency, as tensions and expectations run high in the political landscape of the Republic. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
