
Töre Residents Committed to Addressing Police Shortcomings – BRTK

Acting President and President of the Republic Assembly Zorlu Töre recently hosted Police General Director Kasım Kuni and his delegation in honor of the “60th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Police Organization” and “Police Week”.
During the reception at the Assembly Hall of Honor, Mayor Töre commended the police organization for its role in safeguarding the life and property security of the Turkish Cypriot People, highlighting their rich history and expertise in the field. He emphasized that the services provided by the police benefit all individuals in the country, irrespective of their status.
Mayor Töre expressed satisfaction with the efforts of the police force and pledged to address any existing shortcomings to ensure optimal performance. Reflecting on the history of policing in the region, he noted the transition of Greek police officers to EOKA members during the British period, underscoring the importance of establishing the Police Organization in 1964 to meet the evolving needs of the community.
Acknowledging the need for improvements in manpower and equipment within the police force, Mayor Töre assured that the Parliament would work collaboratively to address these deficiencies. He also highlighted ongoing efforts by the government and Ministry of Finance to support the development of the police department.
In conclusion, Deputy President and Speaker of the Assembly of the Republic, Zorlu Töre, expressed condolences to police officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty. Police General Director Kasım Kuni reciprocated the sentiment, reaffirming the department’s commitment to ensuring public safety despite challenges.
