Töre’s Attendance at the 50th Anniversary Panel of the Cyprus Peace Operation

President of the Assembly of the Republic, Zorlu Töre, recently participated in the 50th Anniversary of the Cyprus Peace Operation Panel held at Artvin Coruh University in collaboration with the Atatürk Research Center. The event took place at the Ali Nihat Gökyiğit Congress Center of the University and was also attended by various dignitaries including Artvin Governor Cengiz Ünsal, Mayor Bilgehan Erdem, Provincial Garrison Commander Colonel Muhammet Kelami Kablay, Provincial Police Chief Hüseyin Adatepe, and TRNC Trabzon Consul Erek Çağatay.

The panel, moderated by Coruh University Rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa Sıtkı Bilgin, featured discussions led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hasan Cicioğlu on the causes and consequences of the operation, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Balyemez on its international perception.

During his speech at the panel, Töre emphasized the significance of the Turkish people in Cyprus as a part of the Turkish world. He praised the resilience and perseverance of the Turkish Cypriots in preserving their national and spiritual values despite facing difficulties, pressure, and oppression.

Töre highlighted the historical significance of the Turkish Resistance Organization’s resistance on the island, noting that the ongoing struggle culminated in the Peace Operation. He expressed gratitude towards Turkey and the Turkish army, stating, “The Turkish army is the life in our body, the Turkish Nation is the blood that flows in our veins. We will not give up our life or our blood. Neither the Americans nor the Europeans can separate us. No one will separate us.”

President Töre is expected to return to the TRNC following the panel, carrying with him the sentiments of unity, strength, and determination shared during the event.
