Tour Bus Collides with Tourists on Pedestrian Crossing in Manavgat
Tragic Accident in Manavgat: Two Czech Tourists Killed by Tour Midibus
A devastating accident occurred on the Manavgat-Alanya D-400 Highway yesterday evening at around 21.30. According to reports, the tour midibus, with license plate 07 BDB 658 and driven by Mehmet Lök, was traveling from Manavgat to Alanya when it collided with a group of tourists who were crossing the road to visit the bazaar across from their hotel. The incident took place approximately 100 meters from the Boztepe junction in the Örenşehir Mahallesi.
Sadly, two Czech tourists lost their lives in this accident. It was discovered that the lighting lamps and traffic lights on the road were not functioning at the time. As the tour midibus approached at high speed, most of the tourists managed to retreat to safety. However, two individuals failed to notice the oncoming vehicle and continued walking. Tragically, one of the tourists ended up beneath the midibus, while the other was dragged in front of it for a brief period before succumbing to their injuries.
The victims have been identified as Karin Sopkova and Kleta Halasova, both Czech tourists staying at a hotel in Alanya’s Okurcalar District. Following investigations conducted by the Gendarmerie Crime Scene Investigation, the public prosecutor, and the coroner, their bodies were transported to the Antalya Forensic Medicine Institute for further examination.
Immediately after the accident, numerous ambulances were dispatched to the scene. Onlookers from nearby hotels gathered alongside the road, watching the events unfold with curious eyes.
Security camera footage captured the moment when some of the tourists noticed the approaching bus and quickly retreated. Unfortunately, the two Czech tourists continued on their path, leading to the tragic outcome.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety and the need for proper functioning lighting systems in order to prevent such accidents. The local authorities are expected to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident to determine any potential liability and prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
