Tourism Boom: Turkish Ports Attract Record Number of Tourist Ships
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, has recently shared promising data regarding the number of touristic ships anchoring in Turkish ports. According to Uraloğlu, Turkey’s shores have become major attractions for tourists from all around the world.
In the first six months of 2023, the number of ships calling at Turkish ports reached an impressive 420, marking a significant increase of 32.5 percent compared to the same period last year. Furthermore, the number of passengers on these ships experienced a remarkable surge of 88.8 percent, with a total of 482,925 passengers arriving during the same time frame. These figures have broken the record for the first half of the year since 2022.
Uraloğlu took to his social media account to announce additional details. He highlighted that in June alone, there was a 14.8 percent increase in ship stopovers, with 140 ships making use of Turkish ports as their designated resting points. This rise in ship activity resulted in a proportional surge in the number of passengers, with 183,407 visitors arriving via touristic ships, reflecting a 58.2 percent increase compared to the previous year.
Despite the challenges faced by the global tourism industry, Uraloğlu expressed his satisfaction with Turkey’s growing popularity as a tourist destination. He stated, “Despite the adversity prevailing in the world, our country has become highly sought after in terms of tourism.”
The Turkish government and relevant authorities have been working hard to promote the country’s natural and historical attractions, as well as improving tourism infrastructure and services. These efforts are clearly paying off, as Turkey continues to draw in increasing numbers of tourist ships and passengers.
