Touristic Eastern Express Concludes Journey in Kars
The Touristic Eastern Express Embarks on its First Voyage of the Season
The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Republic of Turkey State Railways (TCDD) General Directorate of Transportation Inc. kicked off the Touristic Eastern Express from the historical Ankara Train Station to Kars at 14.00 on December 23. This marked the beginning of its first voyage in the 2024-2025 period.
After making stops in Erzincan and Erzurum, the passengers arrived at Kars Train Station at 22.35 after a journey lasting approximately 32.5 hours. They were warmly welcomed with flowers upon their arrival. The passengers had the opportunity to sample the local products of the city and participate in photo sessions with the locals from Kars and the Caucasian Folk Dances team.
The welcoming festivities concluded with the ceremonial burning of the “Kars” sign in front of the station using a torch. However, due to an explosion at an ammunition factory in the central Karesi district of Balıkesir, musical performances and shows in the karshlama were cancelled.
Governor Ziya Polat expressed his delight at the arrival of the Touristic Eastern Express in Gazi Kars, the city of martyrs, Ani, the first Turkish city, and a culinary paradise. He wished for a safe, trouble-free, and successful season for the express, thanking all those involved in making the expeditions possible.
Polat offered his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the explosion in Balıkesir and explained that the decision to forego music and entertainment during the welcome was due to the tragic incident.
Murat Akçay, the Head of Customer Services Department of TCDD Taşımacılık AŞ, highlighted the significance of the Touristic Eastern Express’s first voyage of the season. He mentioned that the passengers would have the opportunity to explore the gastronomy of Kars and visit its historical and cultural sites along the way.
The Touristic Eastern Express promises an enriching and memorable journey for all passengers as they embark on this exciting adventure through the picturesque landscapes of Turkey.
