Trade Surplus Surges by EUR 167 Million in July

Hungary’s export and import volumes saw positive growth in July, with exports increasing by 4.9% and imports by 7.1% compared to the same period last year. The assets reached EUR 167 million, although the balance deteriorated by EUR 398 million year-on-year.

According to the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (KSH), the adjusted volume of exports decreased by 1.0% and imports by 0.9% in July compared to June. The total worth of exports in July was EUR 11.8 billion, slightly higher than imports at EUR 11.6 billion.

The report highlights that exports of machinery and transport equipment decreased by 0.7% while imports grew by 4.4%. The volume of exports and imports of energy products also saw a substantial increase.

Furthermore, the volume of exports to the EU27 rose by 0.5% while imports from the EU27 increased by 5.2%. In contrast, trade with non-EU27 countries saw a significant volume growth in exports and imports.

Overall, exports in January-July amounted to EUR 85.1 billion and imports to EUR 77.2 billion. Although export volume fell by 1.3% and import volume by 4.7% compared to the previous year, the external trade balance improved by EUR 3.3 billion, resulting in a surplus of EUR 7.9 billion.
