Tragedy Strikes Mount Ararat: 2 Lives Lost

Local guide Barzani Ceylan and his friend embarked on a perilous journey up the summit of Mount Ararat in the darkness of night to search for two individuals who had gone missing due to the harsh weather conditions. Unfortunately, Ceylan discovered the lifeless bodies of Dilek Gökbulak and Muhammed Halim Dalgın at an altitude of 4,900 meters.

The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) swiftly initiated efforts to recover the bodies from their location. The tragic incident occurred on Saturday, July 20, when two members of a climbing group found themselves stranded at an altitude of 5,050 meters amidst thick fog and a blizzard, ultimately leading to their disappearance at 5,137 meters.

In response to the distress call, AFAD, UMKE, and gendarmerie teams initiated a search and rescue operation, deploying unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) to aid in the efforts. The entire expedition to Mount Ararat took a somber turn as the bodies of the missing climbers were located, bringing a sense of sorrow and loss to the mountaineering community.
