Tragic Accident in Ethiopia: 71 Dead in Wedding Convoy Crash
A devastating accident in Ethiopia has left 71 people dead and 2 seriously injured after a truck carrying guests in a wedding convoy crashed into a river in the Sidama region in the south of the country. The incident, which occurred late yesterday, also included the groom among the group of passengers.
According to Ethiopian security forces, the truck lost control on a steep and winding road, causing it to plummet into the river from the Gelan Bridge in the Bona Zuria district. The regional police reported that 68 men and 3 women lost their lives in the accident, with two individuals sustaining serious injuries, who are currently receiving treatment at Bona General Hospital.
Authorities highlighted the common practice of traveling in truck beds in the region, stating that this habit often leads to increased casualties in accidents on roads with sharp bends and steep slopes. The tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the dangers associated with such practices and the need for improved safety measures on Ethiopia’s roadways.
