Tragic Fatal Fire in Detached House Claimed Elderly Woman’s Life

Fire in Aksaray’s Gülağaç district claims life of elderly woman

Tragedy struck the Osmanlı village in Aksaray’s Gülağaç district when a fire broke out in the home of 85-year-old Meryem Şahin. Meryem lived in the detached house with her son Kenan Şahin (66) and daughter-in-law Sevgi Şahin (64). The fire was reportedly caused by a spark from the stove and quickly spread, catching Sevgi Şahin in her sleep.

Sevgi, struggling to wake up due to smoke inhalation, attempted to save her mother-in-law but was unable to lift her. She managed to escape the flames and sought help from neighbors. The fire eventually engulfed the entire room, and emergency services were alerted.

Gendarmerie and fire brigade teams arrived at the scene, and after 2 hours of intense efforts, the fire was extinguished. Tragically, the elderly woman lost her life in the blaze, and Sevgi was treated for smoke inhalation at Aksaray Training and Research Hospital Emergency Service.

The incident has prompted an investigation by the Aksaray Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, as it was revealed that Kenan Şahin was out of town at the time of the fire. District Governor Muhammet Fatih Aydın visited the scene to assess the situation.

The detached house was left severely damaged by the fire and deemed uninhabitable. The entire community is left mourning the loss of the elderly woman and coming to terms with the tragedy that has befallen their village.
