Tragic Mudflow in Kyrgyz Republic Claims Lives of Four Kazakh Children
A devastating mudflow in the Nookat district of the Osh region in the Kyrgyz Republic on June 28 has resulted in the loss of four young Kazakh lives. The bodies of the children have been flown back to Oskemen, as reported by the East Kazakhstan Region’s akimat (local administration) on July 1.
Yermek Kosherbayev, the Akim (mayor) of the region, personally met with the families of the victims to convey his deepest condolences. He assured them that the entire East Kazakhstan community mourned with them during this difficult time and pledged full support from the regional administration.
In response to the tragedy, rescuers from the Kazakh Ministry of Emergency Situations, equipped with support from the Defense Ministry, swiftly arrived in Osh on June 30 to evacuate Kazakh citizens and repatriate the deceased children. Additionally, Kazakhstan has sent over 2.7 tons of food aid to assist the affected residents of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The disastrous mudflow, triggered by heavy rainfall on June 28, claimed the lives of multiple individuals, including both locals and tourists in the Nookat area. According to reports from the Kyrgyz Ministry of Emergency Situations, the total death toll stands at nine, with hundreds of people being evacuated from the affected areas.
