The Hungarian State Railways (MÁV) is offering cost-effective international train tickets between Budapest and Split, with stops in Zagreb and connections to the northern Croatian seashore with Rijeka (Fiume) and Pula (Póla) on the Istria peninsula.

According to the official website of MÁV, the astonishing islands of Brac and Hvar can be easily reached from Split, while Zagreb can be accessed with daytime direct trains. Passenger trains operate from Pécs and Villány to Pélmonostor (Beli Manastir, East Croatia, close to the Serbian border).

In addition, night trains to Split are available every Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday from June 9 to September 23. The return journey is on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday, and everything about these two Croatian railway possibilities can be found here. Travellers may also view the journey on an official map available in the same link.

The prices are relatively low, with ticket prices starting at EUR 15 for Budapest to Zagreb, EUR 24 for Rijeka, Pula, and Eszék, and EUR 30 for Split. Children aged 6 to 15 pay only EUR 5, and children under 6 travel for free. These prices are for 2nd class tickets, and additional fees may apply for 1st class seats. Train tickets can be purchased at this link.

Furthermore, MÁV offers special offers, such as a cabin for 4-6 people at EUR 209 and discounted tickets for Start Klub cardholders. Travellers can also purchase an Interrail ticket for Croatia for only EUR 62 for adults and EUR 54 for people under 26.
