Transylvania’s Hungarian Community Celebrates 35 Years of Minority Party Representation

The Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (RMDSZ) recently celebrated its 35th anniversary, marking its longstanding commitment to representing the Hungarian community in Romania. Since its establishment on December 25, 1989, RMDSZ has been a steadfast advocate for the political and community interests of Hungarians, ensuring their representation at various levels of government.
Hunor Kelemen, the President of RMDSZ, emphasized the alliance’s resilience and growth over the years, despite political changes in the region. He highlighted RMDSZ’s success in recent elections, showcasing the alliance’s continued strength and relevance.
RMDSZ has played a crucial role in the development of Transylvania and the advancement of Hungarian communities, with a focus on regional development, infrastructure, housing, and education. The party remains committed to supporting lagging regions and implementing key projects like the construction of motorways and a high-speed railway connecting Bucharest, Cluj Napoca, and Budapest.
Notably, RMDSZ has also achieved significant political milestones, including leading two important ministries in the Romanian government. Barna Tánczos, appointed as Romania’s Minister of Finance and Deputy Prime Minister, is the first Hungarian to hold such a prominent position in Romania’s democratic history.
In addition to its political accomplishments, RMDSZ is dedicated to responsible governance, advocating for reduced state burdens on citizens and streamlining government operations. Hunor Kelemen expressed gratitude for the continued trust in RMDSZ and affirmed the alliance’s commitment to protecting and representing the Hungarian community in Romania for the foreseeable future.
As RMDSZ commemorates its 35th anniversary, its legacy of advocacy, representation, and progress for the Hungarian community in Romania remains steadfast. The alliance’s contributions to the region’s development and political landscape reflect a long-standing commitment to serving the needs and interests of Hungarians in Romania.
