Trial for Necip Hablemitoğlu assassination postponed to April 21

The hearing for the murder of Necip Hablemitoğlu, a faculty member at Ankara University, took place at the Ankara 28th High Criminal Court. The incident occurred on December 18, 2002, when Hablemitoğlu was attacked in front of his house in Ankara. The only detained defendant, Nuri Gökhan Bozkır, along with Enver Altaylı, who was convicted in another case, attended the hearing via Audio and Video Information System (SEGBİS). Meanwhile, the unarrested defendants Levent Göktaş, Fikret Emek, Ahmet Tarkan Mumcuoğlu, Aydın Köstem, and Mehmet Narin were present in the courtroom. However, the fugitive defendants Mustafa Özcan and Serhat Ilıcak did not attend the hearing.

During the hearing, Levent Göktaş denied the crime charged against him, stating that the expert found no similarity between him and the individuals seen following Hablemitoğlu in the images. He requested that his judicial control measure be lifted, emphasizing his service as a Turkish officer with three heroism medals.

Similarly, Nuri Gökhan Bozkır refuted the accusations against him, claiming that the footage examined proved his absence at the scene. He asserted that he should not be detained, especially considering he had already served the sentence imposed on him. Bozkır demanded his release based on concrete evidence.

The hearing concluded with the decision to continue the detention of Nuri Gökhan Bozkır and maintain the judicial control measures applied to the other defendants. The court also agreed to write a letter to the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office to identify the suspects seen in the images submitted as evidence. The next hearing was scheduled for April 21, marking a significant development in the ongoing case.
