Vice President Yılmaz Visits Güzelyurt Cold Storage and Integrated Facilities

Vice President Yılmaz recently visited the Güzelyurt Cold Storage and Integrated Facilities in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) along with TRNC Prime Minister Ünal Üstel. During the visit, they received information about the facility from authorities and inspected the land where the cold storage will be built.

Yılmaz highlighted the recent signing of a memorandum of understanding with Üstel in Ankara as part of the Advanced Fruit Processing and Frozen Cold Storage Capacity Development Project in the TRNC Citrus Sector. This project aims to build a cold storage facility with a capacity of 15 thousand tons in the first phase, and later expanding to a capacity of 40 thousand tons for citrus products produced in the TRNC. The construction works for the warehouse have already begun to help producers minimize seasonal problems in the citrus trade.

The facility will also incorporate solar energy for sustainability. Additionally, the project includes the modernization and capacity increase of the concentrated facility for fresh fruit and concentrated product, with the aim of strengthening the Cypfruvex company. This will allow for the production of tetra pak fruit juice and dried grain products, as well as the construction of cold and frozen storage rooms equipped with modern shelving systems.

Yılmaz emphasized the importance of supporting planned agriculture and production, stating that the project addresses the lack of storage facilities in the TRNC. By increasing storage capacity, producers can access new markets for fresh fruits and protect their products. The project also includes plans to examine the construction site of Güzelyurt Hospital, demonstrating a commitment to improving infrastructure in various sectors.

Furthermore, Yılmaz touched upon the significance of stability in the Eastern Mediterranean region, citing recent events in Gaza and Palestine as lessons for all. He emphasized the role of the Peace Operation in Northern Cyprus and expressed gratitude towards those involved. Yılmaz also underscored the TRNC’s commitment to technological advancement and development, with Turkey’s support as a homeland and guarantor state.

The visit concluded with Yılmaz and Üstel inspecting the construction site of Güzelyurt Hospital and paying tribute to the Martyr Cengiz Topel Monument. The ongoing efforts in the TRNC reflect a dedication to progress, prosperity, and peace in the region.
