TRNC President Ersin Tatar Praises Netflix Series in CNN TURK Interview
TRNC President Ersin Tatar Criticizes Netflix for Biased Portrayal of Cyprus Issue
TRNC President Ersin Tatar recently spoke out against Netflix for its portrayal of the Cyprus issue in a new series, stating that the reactions from both the TRNC and the Republic of Turkey have been significant. Tatar expressed his disappointment in Netflix for taking a one-sided viewpoint on the matter.
Tatar emphasized that the Cyprus issue did not begin in 1974, but rather the 1974 Cyprus Peace Operation was a necessary military intervention that saved Turkish Cypriots from genocide. He referenced former Prime Minister Ecevit’s statement that the intervention brought peace to Cyprus, benefiting both Turks and Greeks. Tatar highlighted that the 1974 Peace Operation put a stop to the bloodshed in Cyprus and has maintained peace in the region for the past 50 years.
The TRNC President also pointed out the atrocities Turkish Cypriots faced before 1974, including massacres and being buried alive, drawing parallels to current events in Gaza. He stressed that the international community was aware of these human rights violations against Turkish Cypriots.
In response to Netflix’s portrayal, Tatar suggested that Turkish Cypriots should produce their own series to tell their side of the story and counter any false narratives. He emphasized the importance of showcasing the reality of the Cyprus issue and not allowing black propaganda to dictate the narrative.
When asked about potential actions towards Netflix, Tatar expressed concerns about the influence of Greek and Greek Cypriot administrators within the EU. He likened their propaganda tactics to those used in Gaza and asserted that necessary actions would be taken to address the biased portrayal of the Cyprus issue.
Overall, President Tatar’s statements reflect the TRNC’s commitment to ensuring the truth of the Cyprus issue is accurately portrayed and the voices of Turkish Cypriots are heard on a global platform.
