TRNC President Tatar Condemns GKRY Leader’s ‘Unacceptable Statements’

Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus President Ersin Tatar has responded to the recent messages from Greek Cypriot Greek Administration leader Nikos Hristodulidis and Greek Orthodox Church Archbishop Georgios. In a statement released during Easter, Tatar criticized the rhetoric used in the messages, stating that they are not calling for a solution but rather trying to cover up crimes and hegemonic desires against the Turkish Cypriot people.
Tatar specifically took issue with Hristodulidis’ message regarding the “strategy to demolish the occupation wall,” calling it out as an attempt to divert attention from the real issues at hand. He emphasized the need for mutual understanding in Cyprus and rejected the idea that any dialogue should be based on incendiary rhetoric.
The President also highlighted the perseverance of the Turkish Cypriot people in their pursuit of compromise and urged the international community to recognize their efforts towards reconciliation. He made it clear that Turkish Cypriots are unwilling to compromise on their sovereignty and dignity.
In response to the call for action against the Turks made by Archbishop Georgios, Tatar reiterated the importance of dialogue and emphasized the need for all parties to work towards a peaceful resolution in Cyprus. He called on the international community to take the Turkish Cypriot vision for reconciliation seriously in order to achieve lasting stability in the region.
Overall, President Tatar’s message conveys a strong stance against inflammatory rhetoric and a commitment to finding a peaceful solution to the longstanding issues in Cyprus. It remains to be seen how the Greek Cypriot and Greek Orthodox leaders will respond to his statements.
