TRNC Prime Minister Recognizes Sacrifices of Martyrs for Freedom
Prime Minister Ünal Üstel of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus recently delivered a heartfelt message in honor of the 21-25 December National Struggle and Martyrs’ Week. In his statement, Üstel emphasized the importance of remembering the sacrifices of the martyrs who fought for the freedom and sovereignty of their country.
The 21 December Martyrs’ Week holds great significance in the history of the Turkish Cypriot people, as it commemorates the determination and resistance of those who paid the ultimate price for independence. Üstel highlighted the heroic sacrifices made by martyrs in the struggle for national existence, urging the nation to remember their bravery with mercy, gratitude, and respect.
The Prime Minister praised the Turkish Cypriot people for their solidarity and resilience during dark times, particularly referencing the events of “Bloody Christmas” in 1963. He acknowledged the vital support of Turkey in the ongoing fight for freedom and sovereignty, stating that the sacrifices of martyrs paved the way for the country’s present-day freedom.
Üstel concluded his message by paying respects to all fallen martyrs and expressing gratitude to veterans for their service. He vowed to uphold the belief in freedom and rights of the Turkish Cypriot people, promising to protect and carry forward the sacred trust left by the martyrs.
