TRNC Upholds Rule of Law, Confirms BRTK
President Ersin Tatar Emphasizes Rule of Law and Sovereignty in TRNC
During his speech at the opening ceremony of the 2024-2025 Judicial Year, President Ersin Tatar highlighted the importance of the rule of law and sovereignty in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). He stated that the TRNC is a state of law where the law is respected, and emphasized the support of Motherland Turkey and Azerbaijan in upholding human rights in the region.
President Tatar addressed the issue of property and the significance of the Immovable Property Commission in his speech. He noted that the decisions made by the commission have been repeatedly confirmed by the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) and highlighted the importance of complying with international law, including the European Convention on Human Rights.
Tatar pledged to ensure that applications before the Immovable Property Commission are finalized on time, emphasizing the need for resources to implement decisions promptly. He also called for the speedy resolution of property disputes brought before the Supreme Administrative Court, expressing confidence in the judiciary’s ability to fulfill this duty effectively.
The President underscored the importance of reaching a fair and equal permanent solution in Cyprus through negotiations, emphasizing the acceptance of Turkish Cypriot sovereignty. He stated that denial of sovereignty is unacceptable and pointed to the 1960 agreement as the legal basis for discussions on the island’s future.
President Tatar also discussed the independence of the Public Service Commission and the ongoing efforts to improve the court system in the TRNC. He called for reducing court congestion and increasing the number of judges by allocating more resources to the judiciary.
In conclusion, Tatar touched upon the Champion Angels case, highlighting the importance of unity and perseverance in tackling challenges in the region.
