Trouble in Kurşunlu: Mussel Farm Uproar Rattles the Neighborhood

Residents of Kurşunlu Neighborhood in Gemlik district of Bursa are expressing their dissatisfaction with the mussel farms located on the shores of their neighborhood. The issue has escalated to the judiciary, with expert delegations inspecting the farms on-site. Hüseyin Ormancılar, the headman of the neighborhood, has called for the removal of these mussel farms.
Judges, prosecutors, and expert delegations who visited the farms observed the environmental damage caused by the farms. Ormancılar pointed out, “The delegation from the court, judges, prosecutors, and experts came and witnessed the dirty and polluted environment.”
The mussel farms in the area are said to have a negative impact on sea activities, with Ormancılar stating, “These farms cover 3.5 hectares and prevent people from swimming in the sea or fishing within 200 meters.” He also addressed the concerns of residents and tourists, mentioning that tourists visiting the area to watch the sunset now encounter mussel farms instead.
Expressing confidence in the judicial system, Ormancılar stated, “We believe in the court and justice, and we trust that these farms will be removed from our neighborhood and village. We thank everyone for their support.”
As the controversy surrounding the mussel farms continues, residents and authorities are hopeful for a resolution that will address the concerns of the neighborhood.
