Celebrating 61 Years of TRT: A Tribute by Özdemir Tokel
Nicosia, Cyprus — Özdemir Tokel, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bayrak Radio and Television Corporation (BRTK), extended heartfelt congratulations to the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT) on the occasion of its 61st anniversary. Tokel elaborated on TRT’s deeper significance for the Turkish Cypriot population. He noted, “During times when the voices of Turkish Cypriots faced silencing and invisibility, TRT emerged as the most potent platform to advocate for our rightful cause to the entire world. In moments when our connections with the global community were severed, TRT’s microphones served as a lifeline for us.”
He also highlighted the seamless cooperation between BRTK and TRT, characterizing their relationship as one built on mutual admiration, trust, and respect. This bond transcends historical ties, strengthened through technical collaboration, information exchange, and institutional support.
Furthermore, Tokel acknowledged the essential role that TRT’s technological infrastructure, publishing expertise, and informational resources play in BRTK’s developmental trajectory. “These contributions signify not only technical assistance but also a strong commitment to progressing together,” he explained.
