TRT World Citizen Humanitarian Film Festival Honors Filmmakers Addressing Global Issues

The TRT World Citizen Humanitarian Film Festival, organized for the 5th time by TRT, awarded deserving filmmakers for their impactful work. The festival aims to draw attention to millions of people around the world experiencing despair through the power of art.

During the ceremony, Director of Communications Fahrettin Altun highlighted the festival’s significance in shedding light on the pain and despair faced by millions. He emphasized that the festival aligns with TRT’s broadcast policy of prioritizing the welfare of people.

Altun stated, “In a time when the world is facing economic crises, epidemics, famine, climate change, and ongoing conflicts, this festival is extremely valuable as it brings attention to those in pain and despair through the power of art.”

Altun expressed gratitude to TRT for prioritizing the human dimension in global issues and emphasized the importance of TRT’s contribution to promoting global peace and stability.

TRT General Manager Mehmet Zahid Sobacı emphasized the festival’s significance as a platform to share stories that often go unheard. Sobacı stated, “We are pleased to host this festival in Turkey, where the voice of humanity rises for the world. It is time to break the barriers in the minds of people worldwide, and as Turkey’s public broadcaster, we adopt a people-centered approach in all our events.”

Sobacı reiterated Turkey’s commitment to humanitarian efforts and thanked the filmmakers for choosing Turkey as the place to share their works.

The festival received more than 370 submissions from various countries, including Turkey, Spain, America, France, India, Nigeria, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Hungary, and Palestine. The filmmakers brought attention to pressing global issues and demonstrated the power of film in raising awareness.

Additionally, the festival honored Akos Kovacs from Hungary with the first prize, followed by Alireza Kazemipour from Iran in second place and Samir Karahoda from Kosovo in third place.

The TRT Special Award, given for “climate awareness,” focused on the urgent situation in Gaza. Palestinian director Ahmed Salih was chosen to receive the award but could not attend the ceremony. Salih sent a video message expressing his gratitude.

The TRT World Citizen Humanitarian Film Festival continues to play a crucial role in bringing global issues to the forefront through the art of filmmaking.
