Trump confuses Jean Carroll for his ex-wife in rape accusation case
Former US President Donald Trump’s ongoing legal battles continue as a lawsuit filed by writer E. Jean Carroll accusing him of sexual assault in the mid-1990s proceeds to trial. At a hearing in New York recently, the court began to review a video-recorded statement from Trump, which features him denying the attack and misidentifying Carroll in a photograph. Carroll, who was a columnist for Elle Magazine and now aged 79, alleges that Trump assaulted her in a department store’s changing room. Three women, including Lisa Birnbach, testified as witnesses for Carroll, while Trump has yet to attend the hearings. So far, the former President’s legal team has argued that Carroll is seeking financial gain and that the connection of his ex-spouse’s identity to the case indicates that the wider allegations against him are baseless.
