Trump gives Canada 30 days to make a decision
US President Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau have come to an agreement on strengthening the northern border between the two countries. Trump shared this news on his social media account, highlighting the importance of stopping the flow of fatal drugs like Fentanyl into Canada.
According to Trump, the $1.3 billion border plan will involve deploying new helicopters, technology, and staff to strengthen border security. This initiative will also focus on increasing cooperation with American partners to prevent the influx of Fentanyl into Canada.
Trump emphasized that approximately 10,000 personnel will be dedicated to protecting the border and preventing organized crime. Trudeau has made new commitments, including assigning a “Fentanyl czar,” listing cartels as terrorists, and implementing round-the-clock supervision at the border to combat money laundering.
In addition, Trump signed a new intelligence directive on organized crime and Fentanyl, pledging $200 million in support of this initiative. He stated, “As the president, it is my responsibility to ensure the safety of all Americans, and I am taking action to do so.”
Meanwhile, the decision to boycott US products in Canada’s Ontario province has been put on hold. Ontario Prime Minister Doug Ford announced on social media that the province would temporarily suspend its decision to ban US products, including alcoholic beverages. Ford expressed hope for a resolution with the US and suggested focusing on the real trade war with China instead.
Ford also revealed that Ontario would remove American products from shelves and catalogs to prevent their sale in the state. He encouraged businesses to promote domestic products by placing the Canadian flag next to them.
President Trump had previously imposed additional tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico, as well as China. However, he recently reached an agreement with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum to temporarily halt tariffs on Mexican imports in exchange for increased border security measures.
Overall, the collaboration between the US and Canada on border security and trade issues signals a commitment to mutual cooperation and security for both nations.
