Former US President Donald Trump has met with his supporters in New Jersey, following his appearance before a judge in Miami over accusations that he was hiding classified state documents. Trump has vowed to appoint a special prosecutor for Joe Biden and his family if he returns to power in 2024, claiming that Biden is the most corrupt president in US history and deserves to be held accountable. He also stated that he will destroy the “deep state” and those who he believes have undermined the country’s election and border policies.
Trump’s appearance in Miami marks the second time he has appeared in court on federal charges. He was accused of taking classified documents with him as he left the White House and obstructing federal investigations into it. Trump described these allegations as absurd and unfounded, and claimed that they were politically motivated to divert attention from the bribery allegations against the Biden family. Trump’s Florida home was raided by FBI agents on August 8, 2022, as part of the confidential documents investigation.
Former Attorney General Jack Smith, who was appointed as a special expert, is leading the investigations against Trump. Trump has described Smith as “rogue” and “unstable”. In April 2022, Trump also appeared in Manhattan Criminal Court on charges that he paid a woman during the 2016 presidential election. He denied the charges and became the first former US President to appear in court on criminal charges.
Despite the ongoing investigations, Trump remains popular among his supporters. His speech in New Jersey was attended by thousands of supporters who cheered him on as he made his promises. As the 2024 presidential election approaches, it remains to be seen if Trump will keep his vow to appoint a special prosecutor for the Bidens, or if his legal battles will impact his political future.
