Trump’s Birthright Citizenship Decree Rejected

The US Department of Justice’s attempt to re-enact Trump’s decree denying citizenship to children born in the country has been rejected by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, according to NBC News.
President Trump signed the controversial decree on January 20, which sought to eliminate the longstanding policy that granted automatic citizenship to children born in the USA. However, 18 Democratic state prosecutors filed a lawsuit against the decree, arguing that it was unconstitutional.
The Seattle regional judge issued a temporary injunction on January 23, halting the implementation of Trump’s decree. Similarly, a judge in Maryland issued a preliminary injunction against the decree on February 6.
Approximately 150,000 children are born in the United States each year and are entitled to citizenship based on their place of birth. The legal battle over Trump’s citizenship decree continues to unfold in the courts.
