Trump’s Confessions Lead to Sentencing, Marking USA’s History

Former US President Donald Trump has been ordered to pay $5 million in damages to writer E. Jean Carroll, who accused him of sexual harassment and defamation dating back to over 30 years ago. Carroll, who first made the allegations against Trump in her 2019 memoir, claimed that the former President pushed her against a wall and sexually assaulted her inside a store in Manhattan in the 1990s. Trump denied the claims and called them a “bogus and false story.” The jury, made up of 9 members including 3 women, deliberated for almost three hours before awarding Carroll $5 million in damages, including $2 million for convicting Trump of sexual harassment and $3 million for libeling Carroll.

The case heard from other female victims of alleged Trump harassment including Jessica Leeds and Natasha Stoynoff who accused Trump of sexually harassing them. Trump, who did not attend the hearings, is not required to register as a “sex offender” since the case was heard in a civil court.

This is not Trump’s only legal battle as he continues to face multiple lawsuits and charges. In another case, he is being sued after being accused of paying hush money to an adult film actor Stormy Daniels during the 2016 Presidential election. Trump has denied all 34 charges against him, including accusations of document forgery, interference in the 2016 elections, and giving women hush money to keep quiet.

Trump’s spokesperson, Steven Cheung, has confirmed that the former US President will appeal the decision to pay damages to Carroll, meaning he will not have to pay compensation until a decision has been made in the appeals process. In response to the verdict, Trump called it “a continuation of the greatest witch hunt of all time.”
