Trump’s Victory: US National Broadcaster Receives Payment
ABC News and Trump’s Legal Team Reach Agreement, $15 Million Donation and Public Apology to Be Made
ABC News and host George Stephanopoulos have reached an agreement with Trump’s legal team in the defamation lawsuit against Donald Trump. As part of the agreement, ABC News and Stephanopoulos have agreed to pay $15 million in charitable donations to “a presidential foundation or museum established by or on behalf of the plaintiff” and issue a public apology.
Additionally, the television company will pay $1 million in attorney fees for the plaintiff. Posting about the agreement on his social media account, Trump emphasized the importance of accuracy in journalism, especially when it comes to public figures.
The lawsuit was filed earlier this year when Stephanopoulos repeated 10 times during an interview on ABC News that the jury in the E. Jean Carroll case in New York found Trump guilty of “rape.” Magazine writer E. Jean Carroll accused Trump of raping her in 1996, but Trump has denied the allegations.
In the court case, the jury found Trump guilty of assault, insult, and sexual harassment but could not prove the “rape” allegations. Trump was ordered to pay $5 million for assault and insult and $83.3 million for the damage caused to the plaintiff.
Overall, the agreement reached between ABC News and Trump’s legal team marks a significant legal victory for Trump and highlights the importance of factual reporting in journalism, especially when dealing with high-profile individuals.
