
Turkan Soray bids emotional farewell to renowned writer at dinner party

Renowned Turkish writer Selim İleri was bid farewell by family, friends, and colleagues at a funeral ceremony held at Üsküdar Vaniköy Mosque. Following the noon prayer, his nephew, Prof. Dr. Ferhat Nutku, offered his condolences as the funeral prayer took place.
The ceremony was attended by Governor of Istanbul Davut Gül, former President Abdullah Gül, and prominent figures from the world of literature and cinema including actors Türkan Şoray, Nergis Çorakçı, Sumru Yavrucuk, Kerem Alışık, and academic writer Hasan Bülent Kahraman.
Türkan Şoray, who considered İleri a close friend, expressed her deep sadness over his passing. She shared that she had spoken to him regularly and had even planned to have dinner with him just before his sudden departure. Şoray praised İleri’s contributions to literature and said that he would always hold a special place in her heart.
Actor Kerem Alışık also paid tribute to İleri, describing him as a talented writer and a significant figure in Turkish literature. Alışık fondly remembered the conversations İleri had with his family members and emphasized the impact he had on those around him.
Selim İleri, who was revered for his literary works, will be laid to rest in the family cemetery at Sahrayıcedit Cemetery. The funeral concluded with applause as a final tribute to the esteemed writer. May his soul rest in peace.
