Turkey aims to achieve energy self-sufficiency in natural gas and oil says Minister Çavuşoğlu

Turkey’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, has stressed the importance of supporting tradesmen and artisans in the country’s economy during his attendance at the ‘Craftsman Meeting’ in Manavgat. The Minister noted that the Government had made significant investments under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to strengthen their power, specifically citing their support in times of disaster, including the recent earthquake, fire, and flood events. Minister Çavuşoğlu also addressed issues of income inequality, including the wealthiest two percent of the global population receiving 76% of the world’s wealth. He stated that Turkey’s government is working to prevent this disparity and shared that the country had discovered significant natural resources, including Black Sea gas and oil in the Cudi and Gabar Mountains.

Minister Çavuşoğlu emphasized that Turkey’s geographic position made their country vulnerable to threats and shared that Turkey’s national defense rate in the defense industry has reached up to 80%. He noted that the country is working to produce its own defense products, including tanks, helicopters, and drones, to protect its homeland. The Minister addressed criticism of Turkey’s self-sufficiency efforts, noting that some countries were uncomfortable with Turkey’s efforts to protect its sovereignty and resist interference in its choices.

As Turkey heads towards its parliamentary elections later this month, Minister Çavuşoğlu urged citizens to make an independent choice, emphasizing the need to reinforce the unitary structure of the state and preserve the nation’s independence. He also warned against supporting those who would make concessions on the country’s security for political gain, specifically pointing to the CHP as being aligned with the PKK and FETÖ.
