Turkey Becomes One of Few Countries: Minister Kacır’s KAAN Statement
Minister of Industry and Technology, Mehmet Fatih Kacır, recently spoke at a program held at GAÜN Mavera Congress and Art Center, where he highlighted the success of Gaziantep University and other schools in Gaziantep at TEKNOFESTs. He stated that this success is a great signal for the future of Gaziantep. Minister Kacır emphasized Turkey’s efforts for full independence in critical technologies, specifically mentioning the national combat aircraft KAAN, which recently made its first flight. This achievement has positioned Turkey as one of the few countries capable of developing and producing 5th generation fighter jets.
Furthermore, Minister Kacır mentioned Turkey’s progress in building its own satellites and implementing projects in the National Space Program. He highlighted the development of rocket technologies, with institutions like Roketsan and Delta making significant advancements. While Turkey has not yet reached the capability of sending manned space missions, the country is working towards launching unmanned systems, especially satellites, into space in the near future.
During the program, Alper Gezeravcı, Turkey’s first astronaut who served on the International Space Station as part of the National Space Program, shared his experiences with students. He encouraged young people to pursue their dreams fearlessly and trust in their potential. GAUN Rector Prof. Dr. Arif Özaydın expressed his gratitude for hosting Alper Gezeravcı and commended him for representing Turkey in space.
